Chick-flick is the perfect word to describe the formula of this movie and story telling can either make or break romance films. In “Leap Year” we find out Amy Adams is complaining about her boyfriend of four years hasn’t proposed. Her solution? She’s going to Ireland, where her boyfriend is at a Medical Convention to ask him to marry her instead. The rule is in Ireland a woman can propose to a man on February 29(Leap year.)
So, that’s the formula and let’s hook you with a due to bad weather Adams is forced to take a cab ride to Dublin from a rural city. Her cab driver is young, carefree and and who is rough around the edges in many different ways.
That’s the story. Really, its told in this plain and curve-less manner. I didn’t find much humorous and the dialogue just doesn’t keep you caught, it’s just not funny enough.
I must say that the cast was wonderful—it was not the cast who slaughtered the film at all. I felt the movie wasn’t good enough for the cast. Amy Adams is an incredible actress.
Leap year is a messy, boring pile of D- and it’s rated PG for sensuality and language.
