Apocalypse_now-19020319022008Those of you that have seen the novel “Heart of Darkness,” by Joesph Conard would love the film Apocalypse Now—after all that’s what inspired the film. Apocalypse Now is fantastic, constantly keeping the audience engaged. It’s not a secret that an important part of creating a “captivating film,” means making sure your audience can remained connected during low tension times and high tension times. I’ve noticed the films that I enjoy the most are those that can keep me engaged with tension the whole entire film.

Martin Sheen plays Captin Benjamin L Willard who is sent to Vietnam in order to save a United States Army commander who has disappeared without an approved leave of absence. The film kept me engaged on every level possible, especially emotionally. There are a dozens of unproduced war themed movies, laying on desks in Hollywood—Apocalypse Now was not one to remain unproduced. The film is still recognized as one of the best thrilling movies from the 1970s.

The film was thrilling yet slightly disturbing because the writer John Milius was looking to make Apocalypse Now a film about Vietnam, instead they created a film that symbolized how America was involved with the war. People who have watched the film either enjoy it or dislike it, period there is no in-between.

The film has been awarded by the Academy for Best Picture and Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture—I felt it was earned.

Film production has come a long way since the 70s but we’re still thankful for films like Apocalypse Now because they are classics. These films took ages to create and they had to be perfect—we’ve gone from a film age to a digital age. The world continues to turn and this art will always continue to grow. If you’re looking for a great classic film to enjoy, this is a great pick. And if you’ve seen the film, what do you think of it? Did you enjoy it? What do you think was different then v.s now. Did you like the cinematography?
