Last year people were completely obsessed with the magic in “Frozen,” and then there was “Wicked.” And there’s some good news for you fans out there.
The musical might be coming to the big screen in 2016. Marc Platt is the producer of “Into the Woods,” said that a “Wicked,” film could come in 2016, “but it’s not set in stone.”
“The process of developing that movie has begun. We’re working on it, and whether it makes 2016 or not, I’m not so sure,” Platt said. The hit Broadway show, based on the 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”
I’m sure many of the fans would love to see a film sooner than 2016—but if it takes that long we’re good with it. We just want to see that magic on the big screen.
Platt did state that the talent behind the musical really want to take their time with this film. They have set the expectations high for adapting the musical to a film.
“Audiences enjoy that show so much that we are intending to move forward on the movie but aren’t going to do so until we’re satisfied in the material we have as a screenplay, and that the film will be every bit as satisfying as what we have on the stage.”
Alright, I guess we’ll just have to be patient after all did you know that it took 27 years to make “Into the Woods,” from its original stage production to film?
The best work takes time, patience and a lot of re-writing. And we’re glad they are taking the time to adapt the musical to film format. It will be interesting and fun to see on the big screen.
